Former Big Brother contestant Alex Sibley has successfully been elected as a councillor under the Reform party in the recent local elections. Transitioning from his reality TV background, Sibley emerged victorious in a London district earlier today.
Competing as a Reform candidate, he clinched the Emerson Park constituency in Havering, east London, garnering 1,255 votes, coming close behind fellow Reform contender David Johnson with 1,306 votes.
Having first appeared on TV screens in the third series of Big Brother in 2002, Sibley, now 47 years old, has undergone significant changes over the past 24 years and has aligned himself with Nigel Farage’s political ideology.
Sharing a photo alongside his running mate David Johnson, both donning blue election rosettes, Sibley confirmed their candidacy for Emerson Park in Havering and the Reform UK party, emphasizing their lack of political degrees from prestigious universities.
In the electoral race, Sibley faced opposition from Ghazala Ansari for the Greens, Balwinder Singh Khaira for the Labour party, and a joint Conservative ticket from Bernice Robinson and Dominic Noel Swan.
Speaking in Havering, Farage expressed his satisfaction with the local election results, proclaiming a significant shift in British politics and asserting Reform UK’s position as a prominent national party.
Following his stint on Big Brother and subsequent commercial success in the cleaning industry, Sibley retreated from the public eye in 2004 due to a car incident, eventually transitioning to work in affordable housing. In 2020, he acknowledged the impact of the car accident on his television career.
Despite the challenges, Sibley expressed interest in returning to the entertainment industry, aiming to participate in shows like I’m A Celebrity. His notable moments in the Big Brother house, including interactions with fellow contestant Alison Hammond, sparked discussions among viewers.
Hammond’s playful antics with Sibley, particularly joking about hygiene habits, led to tensions in the house, culminating in Sibley nominating Hammond for eviction. Reflecting on their time together, Hammond expressed her frustrations with Sibley’s meticulous nature and noted his need to relax more.
