With May approaching, families planning overseas trips should take note of the latest airport arrival guidelines provided by major airlines like Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, and TUI.
Airports are anticipated to be crowded during the school holiday season, and due to concerns about fluctuating jet fuel prices, many travelers are seeking to be extra prepared for potential delays, extended queues, and last-minute schedule adjustments.
While the regulations have largely remained consistent in recent months, certain airlines have specific stipulations for various passenger categories or group travelers.
Ryanair recommends that passengers arrive at the airport a minimum of two hours prior to departure to accommodate check-in, baggage drop, and security processes. Additionally, passengers are required to be at the boarding gate at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure.
Even if travelers have made bookings through online travel agencies, they must still confirm their bookings at the airport and arrive at least two hours early.
easyJet informs passengers on its website to anticipate heightened airport congestion during school holidays and to allocate extra time for potential traffic, train disruptions, and queues.
The airline notes that bag drop facilities at most UK airports close 40 minutes before departure, though some airports and destinations might have earlier closures at 60 minutes. Those flying in the morning can utilize twilight bag drop services available the night before.
For Jet2, it is recommended to arrive at the airport at least two hours before the scheduled departure time, as the airline’s check-in desks typically open around two-and-a-half hours before flights.
Jet2 closes its check-in desks 40 minutes before departure, and travelers are encouraged to check the airline’s latest travel information page at least 12 hours before flying for updates on delays or disruptions.
Similar to other airlines, Jet2 also offers its Twilight Check-in service at selected UK airports, allowing morning flight passengers to drop off their bags the evening prior.
TUI’s standard check-in commences at least 2.5 hours before short- and mid-haul flights, while for long-haul flights, check-in can be done 3.5 hours before departure.
The company cautions that arriving earlier than the recommended time will not expedite the security process. Passengers with hand luggage only and those who have completed online check-in can proceed directly to security upon reaching the airport.
For groups traveling together on the same booking with TUI, it is advised that only one individual goes to the bag drop with all necessary documents such as passports, visas, boarding passes, and luggage.
Overall advice for all airlines includes keeping travel documents easily accessible, checking flight updates online prior to heading to the airport, and preparing for potentially longer queues during peak travel periods like the May half-term.
