The White House went into lockdown following a shooting near the Washington Monument. Law enforcement officers engaged a suspicious individual who had fired at Secret Service officers, resulting in the individual being shot.
The shooting incident occurred shortly after JD Vance passed through the area, as reported by Deputy Director Mathew C Quinn. The Secret Service confirmed that there was an officer-involved shooting at 15th Street and Independence Avenue in Washington, D.C. due to a confrontation between an armed individual and Secret Service Police.
During the incident, a young person sustained injuries and was promptly transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening wounds. The shooting occurred approximately a mile away from the White House, prompting a brief evacuation before the area was deemed safe.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) of Washington, DC, stated that an investigation is ongoing at 15th Street and Independence Ave, SW. The MPD advised the public to avoid the area as road closures were expected to last for several hours.
This incident follows an attempted breach by Cole Tomas Allen, who allegedly tried to access the White House Correspondents’ Dinner where President Trump was present. Allen faces charges of attempted murder of the President and two firearm-related offenses.
