“Ben Stokes Dropped from England Squad Amid Nightclub Incident”

Ben Stokes has been dropped from the England squad for the upcoming second test against New Zealand following an investigation into a nightclub incident. Reports indicated that Stokes was involved in a confrontation with Gus Atkinson, a security member, and a Saracens rugby player. While the investigation is ongoing, the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed that Stokes has lost his captaincy and his place in the squad.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the ECB stated that due to the ongoing investigation, both Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson will not be considered for selection in the upcoming Rothesay 2nd Test against New Zealand at the Kia Oval starting on June 17. Yorkshire batter Joe Root will assume the role of Interim Captain for the team, with Sussex fast bowler Jofra Archer and Essex batter Jordan Cox being added to the squad.

As a result of these developments, vice-captain Harry Brook has been overlooked, and Joe Root has been appointed as the team’s captain. The first test between England and New Zealand ended in a victory for England by 115 runs, with the second test scheduled to begin at The Oval next week.

The ECB is currently investigating a breach of team protocols following the initial Men’s Test against New Zealand. Stokes and Atkinson were present at a nightclub where an incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning. Further information is being sought, and updates regarding the squad for the second Test will be provided in due course.

Saracens also issued a statement acknowledging an incident involving one of their academy players on Sunday evening. The club is working to gather all the facts and is in contact with the relevant authorities to address the matter appropriately.
