After a tragic shooting incident in San Diego, two teenage suspects, Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vasquez, 18, were found dead near the Islamic Center of San Diego. The shooting occurred on Monday morning, resulting in the death of three individuals outside the center. The suspects allegedly opened fire on worshippers before taking their own lives in a nearby vehicle.
Authorities from the San Diego Police Department discovered a petrol canister with Nazi symbols, anti-Islam messages, and weapons engraved with hate speech at the scene. Although the motives behind the attack are not yet fully disclosed, Police Chief Scott Wahl mentioned the presence of hate rhetoric left by the suspects.
While investigating the incident, authorities found a note in the vehicle that did not contain any specific threats to the mosque or any other location or individual. The teens’ connection to a local high school and a shopping mall where they were tracked has also been investigated.
The shooting unfolded after a concerned mother reported her son, a runaway juvenile, had taken her car and guns. Police were already searching for the suspects when the shooting took place. Upon arrival, they found three victims with gunshot wounds, including a security guard named Amin Abdullah, who played a crucial role in preventing further casualties.
Chief Wahl commended the security guard’s heroic actions, emphasizing that lives were saved due to his bravery. The identities of the other victims have not been disclosed.
The suspects were later found dead in a car a few blocks away from the mosque, after reports of shots fired from a landscaper. Cain Clark, identified as a standout wrestler, was one of the deceased suspects.
