Corus Entertainment has implemented reductions within its television and radio divisions. A spokesperson for the company disclosed that they have enacted a limited number of adjustments in specific regions, affecting positions at Global B.C., Global National, News 640, and talk radio. These modifications are described as challenging yet crucial to ensure the organization’s teams are structured sustainably, with the aim of minimizing disruptions to local news and audio services. This decision follows a prior round of job cuts earlier this year, primarily concentrated in Western Canada, as part of broader programming modifications nationwide.
In its most recent financial report, Corus revealed a net loss attributable to shareholders amounting to $36.5 million in the third quarter, with a 16% decline in revenue compared to the same period last year. The company is currently seeking approval for its proposed restructuring plan, which involves creditors exchanging debt for equity in a new parent company.
