In the heyday of “Friends,” Matthew Perry’s character Chandler Bing was adored by fans. However, revelations of his ketamine addiction after his passing in 2023 left many fans grappling with the contrast to the beloved sitcom character. Netflix has now announced a three-part docuseries titled “The One About Matthew Perry” to provide a more comprehensive look at the actor’s life.
The documentary will explore Perry’s journey from a rising comedy star to his iconic role on the NBC show, featuring unheard testimonies from close associates, including lifelong friends and his sister Mia Perry Bowick, who is a grief specialist. Bowick has openly shared her grieving process following her brother’s death, emphasizing the complexity of loving Matthew beyond his addiction struggles and TV persona.
At the age of 54, Perry was tragically discovered dead from a ketamine overdose in his backyard hot tub. Several individuals have pleaded guilty to offenses related to supplying him with the drug, with Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who sold Perry ketamine, currently appealing his 30-month prison term.
Netflix has promised that the upcoming docuseries will not only showcase fond memories of Perry but also reveal new insights into his personal battles, highlighting his legacy of honesty and advocacy. The show is set to debut on October 27.
