The family of a British diver is devastated after he was carried away by a strong current and later found deceased.
Robert Ladd went missing after entering dangerous waters off the coast of Indonesia without a boat on March 24. His body was discovered following an encounter with the perilous “Indonesian Throughflow”.
The 45-year-old, hailing from Hillingdon, West London, was diving near Gili Air, a secluded island in the Lombok region of West Nusa Tenggara. Concern arose when he did not return as expected, prompting a search operation by loved ones and local dive teams.
Robert’s remains were located at a depth of approximately 12 meters near his diving location. Despite efforts to revive him with CPR on the shore, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transported to Bhayangkara Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
A large-scale rescue effort involving various authorities and volunteers was initiated to locate the missing diver in the treacherous waters of Gili Air known for its dangerous riptides influenced by the Indonesian Throughflow.
Heartfelt tributes have been pouring in online for Robert, with Joanne McCallum expressing profound sorrow over the loss and describing him as a cherished partner, brother, son, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend, and valued member of the Manta Dive community.
