In response to this development, the Prime Minister stated, “I appreciate the ceasefire agreement that was reached overnight, offering a momentary respite to the region and the global community. Working alongside our partners, we must collectively strive to bolster and maintain this ceasefire, transform it into a lasting accord, and restore navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.”
Just before the 1 am GMT deadline on Wednesday morning, President Trump rescinded his threat to target power plants and bridges in Iran. A dire warning had been issued by the President earlier, cautioning that a civilization could face catastrophic consequences unless Tehran complied with his demands. However, Trump later acknowledged a 10-point proposal from Tehran as a feasible foundation for negotiations, following a mediation request from Pakistan.
During his visit to the region, Keir Starmer will emphasize his government’s dedication to de-escalation and engage in discussions about permanently reopening the Strait of Hormuz. Policing minister Sarah Jones mentioned that the Prime Minister’s journey to the Gulf is aimed at firsthand observation of the defensive actions in the region and active participation in securing a lasting agreement following the ceasefire announcement. She emphasized the importance of transforming the ceasefire into a durable pact, underscoring the Prime Minister’s commitment to ensuring the reopening of the Strait and fostering a lasting resolution.

The focus of their conversation was on international collaboration and diplomatic strategies to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, including the UK-led meeting that brought together more than 40 countries to pursue this objective.
Cooper reportedly advocated for a swift resolution to the conflict and reiterated the UK’s support for negotiations and initiatives to prevent further escalation. The effective blockade of the Strait by Tehran, a strategic sea passage responsible for facilitating approximately 20% of the world’s daily oil transportation, has significantly impacted global oil prices.
