The final match of the World Snooker Championship was interrupted when a protester made her way to the table. Shouting about TV licenses, the female protester was quickly apprehended by referee Rob Spencer as players Wu Yize and Shaun Murphy observed. The incident occurred during the third frame, with Wu leading 2-0 at the time. Despite the disruption, Wu resumed playing after the situation was handled by Spencer and security personnel.
Spectators praised the referee and security team for their swift action, with one audience member expressing support by saying, “Well done, ref!” BBC commentator John Parrott acknowledged the disturbance but assured viewers that it was resolved promptly.
This disruption followed another incident the day before, where a different spectator was removed from the venue for causing a disturbance during the semi-final match between Wu and Mark Allen. Despite these interruptions, Wu advanced to the final after a thrilling match against Allen.
On the other side, Murphy secured his spot in the final by overcoming John Higgins in a closely contested match. Higgins missed a crucial shot, allowing Murphy to capitalize and secure his chance at winning his first title since 2005. Murphy commended Higgins for his exceptional performance, highlighting the tough competition he faced.
