Police were alerted when a student at a primary school in Stoke-on-Trent brought a kitchen knife onto the school premises. Sandon Primary School in Meir issued a statement to parents today regarding the incident, which occurred yesterday. The school is closed until Monday, May 11, due to scheduled Bank Holiday and inset days next week.
In a letter to parents, the school explained that a pupil had the knife in a bag, but staff secured it without the need for a lockdown. The school reviewed CCTV footage and confirmed there was no threat to the safety of the students. Authorities, including the police, were notified, and they are now managing the situation to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
The school acknowledged the concern within the community and apologized for the delay in communication due to the involvement of external agencies. While maintaining confidentiality, the school assured parents of its serious approach to guarantee the ongoing safety of the students.
