A man is accused of brutally killing his former Miss Switzerland spouse after she expressed her desire for a divorce, according to reports. Marc Rieben, 43, allegedly insisted on gaining full custody of the couple’s two children and refused to provide any financial assistance to his estranged wife, Kristina Joksimovic, during their separation discussions. The Baselland Public Prosecutor’s Office revealed these details in an official indictment, highlighting a background of ongoing mistreatment and past incidents of violence against Kristina as reported by her friends.
The tragic incident occurred in February 2024 when Rieben purportedly murdered Kristina in a fit of rage. Shockingly, he then dismembered her body and even used an industrial blender to process some of her remains, as confirmed by the autopsy report.
Evidence from the investigation indicated that Kristina suffered blunt force injuries, bruises on her legs, facial cuts, and hair pulled out during the violent attack. The court documents further disclosed that the fatal altercation erupted during divorce proceedings and escalated to the point where Rieben allegedly strangled Kristina to death with a ribbon-like object.
Subsequently, Rieben reportedly dismembered Kristina’s body using various tools like garden shears, a knife, and a jigsaw. Disturbingly, he purportedly watched YouTube videos on his phone while carrying out these gruesome acts. Investigators also alleged that Rieben deliberately removed Kristina’s womb, suggesting a calculated act of mutilation or ritualized desecration.
As Rieben’s trial approaches, close acquaintances of Kristina have shared intimate insights into the troubled relationship. One friend mentioned that Kristina was deeply in love initially but later confided that Rieben’s demeanor was critical, introverted, and at times, arrogant. Allegedly, Rieben displayed derogatory behavior towards Kristina, expressing a desire for her to disappear.
The distressing saga also involved failed attempts at couples’ therapy and instances where Kristina had to involve law enforcement due to Rieben’s violent and controlling behavior. One friend revealed that Rieben had a strong aversion to femininity, even restricting their children from wearing feminine clothing.
The heartbreaking discovery of Kristina’s remains was made by her father in the basement of their home in Basel. Concerned when Kristina did not show up to collect their children, her father searched the house and stumbled upon the chilling sight of his daughter’s severed head in a black bin bag.
