A member of the Labour Party has issued a challenge to a Cabinet official to take action against the Prime Minister during a live television appearance. Catherine West called on Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson to step forward and remove the PM in a bold move on a BBC program. Ms. West has put Cabinet members on notice, stating that if they do not remove Mr. Starmer, she will consider doing so herself. She informed ministers that she would be willing to be a leadership candidate if they fail to reach a decision internally, requiring the support of 81 Labour MPs. However, Ms. West indicated that she would wait to hear Mr. Starmer’s crucial speech on Monday before taking any definitive action.
During a discussion on the BBC program “Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg,” Ms. West emphasized the importance of senior women stepping up to navigate the challenging period leading up to the next general election and beyond. In response, Ms. Phillipson expressed disagreement with Ms. West’s approach, affirming support for Mr. Starmer’s leadership. Mr. Starmer himself has expressed determination to continue his vision for a decade-long transformation of the country.
Ms. West highlighted the need for the party to modernize, criticizing Labour for appearing outdated. She emphasized the importance of listening to Mr. Starmer’s speech before making any decisions.
