“FIFA COO Kevin Lamour Departs Amid World Cup Sale Controversy”

FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer, Kevin Lamour, has departed from the organization after criticizing President Gianni Infantino’s proposed sale of a share in its tournament operations, which includes the prestigious World Cup. The separation was confirmed by FIFA on Monday, with a spokesperson expressing gratitude for Lamour’s two-year service and wishing him success in his future endeavors. The decision to part ways was mutually agreed upon following discussions, as conveyed by FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafstrom in a letter to staff and Council members. Lamour had raised objections to the proposal, alleging that FIFA staff had been misled and labeling the initiative as the brainchild of a single individual. This dissent echoed the sentiments expressed by Carlos Cordeiro, an adviser to Infantino, who resigned in protest against the plan, denouncing it as detrimental to football. Lamour, who joined FIFA in November 2024 and had been part of Infantino’s inner circle during the 2016 presidential campaign, is among those who have voiced concerns regarding the controversial sell-off strategy.
