The incident occurred during his match against Ross Smith in Blackpool when Menzies, feeling faint and unsteady, had to be assisted off the stage and receive medical attention.
After being evaluated by medical staff, it was determined that Menzies had experienced a bout of high blood pressure. In a recent Facebook post, Menzies expressed his gratitude for the concern shown towards him, stating, “Thanks to everyone who’s checked in and sent messages. I’m okay.”
Messages of support also poured in from his colleagues, with Smith expressing relief at Menzies’ well-being and emphasizing the importance of health. The Professional Darts Corporation issued a statement confirming Menzies’ condition and wishing him a speedy recovery.
Menzies, ranked 27th in the world, had been performing strongly in the tournament before the health scare forced him to withdraw. His opponent, Smith, advanced to the quarter-finals, joining other contenders like Gian van Veen, James Wade, and Gerwyn Price.
In other matches, Price staged an impressive comeback to defeat Rob Cross, setting up a quarter-final clash with Smith. Van Veen secured his spot in the next round by triumphing over Wessel Nijman, while Wade overcame Ryan Searle to advance to a quarter-final showdown against Van Veen.
