A charming town in the Cotswolds, known for its royal connections and a scenic walk along a former railway line, has been featured as a filming location in the popular series, Rivals.
The second season of the hit Disney+ drama, Rivals, continues to captivate audiences with its intense storyline revolving around the rivalry between Corinium and Venturer for the television market in the central southwest region. Set in the 1980s, the series, inspired by Jilly Cooper’s novel, delves into the world of television, showcasing a mix of scandal, secrets, drama, and romance among the affluent British elite.
Since its debut in 2024, Rivals has garnered a dedicated following, and the return of the show on May 15 has generated even more excitement, particularly regarding its filming locations. Bristol, Corsham in Wiltshire, Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire, and various spots across the West of England and the Cotswolds have served as backdrops for the series.
Among the notable filming locations is Tetbury, the second-largest town in the Cotswolds, nestled in a picturesque Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. While Corsham stood in for the fictional town of Cotchester in the series, parts of Tetbury, where author Jilly Cooper resided for four decades, provided the setting for Rutshire.
With its charming streets lined with grand Georgian buildings and honey-colored stone facades, Tetbury exudes a film-set-like ambiance. The town’s history as a hub for the Cotswolds’ wool and yarn trade is evident in its well-preserved 16th and 17th-century wool merchants’ houses, adding to its unique character.
Despite its size, Tetbury boasts a variety of shops clustered in its main areas, including Market Place, Chipping Street, Church Street, and Long Street, several of which have made appearances in Rivals. Visitors can explore boutique stores, jewelry shops, home décor outlets, gift shops, and art galleries, as well as antique stores offering a selection of vintage treasures reminiscent of the show’s aristocratic homes.
After a day of shopping and sightseeing, visitors can unwind at one of Tetbury’s cozy cafes. The Blue Zucchini, known for its delicious offerings and colorful decor, is a local favorite. Other dining options include Cafe 53, Domestic Science, Charlie’s Cafe & Wine Bar, Lola & Co Tapas, and Casa Restaurant, catering to various tastes.
For outdoor enthusiasts, a stroll along the Tetbury Trail is a must-do activity. This three-mile pedestrian and cycle path follows the former Tetbury branch railway line, offering a serene retreat amid the lush Gloucestershire countryside. The trail begins at the Tetbury Goods Shed Arts Centre and ends at The Trouble House, a welcoming spot with dining options and outdoor seating.
In addition to Tetbury, other Gloucestershire locations featured in Rivals include the Beaufort Polo Club, Chavenage House (portraying The Priory), and Berkeley Castle (depicting Hamilton Terrace). Notably, Tetbury is also home to Highgrove House, the private residence of King Charles and Queen Camilla, offering visitors the chance to explore the grounds through guided tours or enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea.
