“Norwich Named Best Place to Live in UK 2026”

The latest annual edition by the Sunday Times has revealed the top places to live across the UK for 2026. After an extensive search, the publication named an eastern city in England as the ultimate winner.

Norwich, praised for its blend of medieval heritage and modern charm, secured the top spot on the Sunday Times Best Place to Live in the UK for 2026 list. This city has the distinction of being featured in all 14 editions of the prestigious annual ranking. Whether you are a young professional, a family, or a retiree, Norwich offers something for everyone.

Following closely behind Norwich in second place is Malmesbury in Wiltshire, described by the Sunday Times as a town with a vibrant high street and rich history. Skipton in North Yorkshire claimed the third spot, with the publication highlighting its market town charm on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales.

The rankings were determined by a panel of experts who evaluated various factors such as broadband speeds, school quality, and the vitality of local businesses. According to the Express, the judges visited locations across the country to compile the list.

Judges praised Norwich as a creative and cosmopolitan city with a welcoming community spirit. The city offers a unique blend of urban amenities and rural tranquility, with easy access to natural landscapes and cultural attractions. Norwich, known as the UK’s first UNESCO City of Literature, boasts a rich cultural scene and historical landmarks, including a renovated Norman castle.

Helen Davies, the editorial projects director and Best Places to Live editor, commended the efforts of communities nationwide in creating vibrant and livable spaces. Lloyds Banking Group provided data on average house prices for the winning locations, ranging from £252,300 to £916,900. Norwich, the overall winner, recorded an average house price of £324,400.

Ballycastle had the lowest average house price at £252,300, while London’s Richmond had the highest average price. London’s average house price across the city was reported at £551,000 in December 2025.
