John Tory, the former mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Tory expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, and filmmakers to influence the organization’s future direction positively.
His tenure officially commences on October 1st, as confirmed in a recent news release. This year’s TIFF festival is scheduled to run from September 10 to 20. Tory takes over the position from Jeffrey Remedios, who had been serving as chair since 2021.
Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing his enduring pride in his contributions to the festival’s growth. Additionally, TIFF welcomed three new members to its board of directors: Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch EchevarrÃa. Meanwhile, Asha Daniere, who had been on the board for nine years, is stepping down. TIFF expressed gratitude for her dedicated service and valuable contributions to the organization.
