Jet2 has made a significant announcement that is set to benefit British tourists. The airline celebrated the launch of its first flight to the beautiful Greek island of Samos, departing from Manchester Airport. This marks the commencement of a new Greek route for summer 2026.
According to Jet2, travelers can now book flights and holidays to Samos, offering a unique experience for those seeking to explore the island’s stunning landscapes. Samos, located near Turkey, is known for its picturesque golden beaches and verdant mountains.
Jet2 will operate flights to Samos twice a week on Tuesdays and Fridays until the end of October. Following the Manchester departure, flights from Birmingham Airport will commence on May 4, and from London Stansted Airport on May 7.
Additional services will include weekly Monday flights from Birmingham until October 26, and twice-weekly services on Monday and Thursday from Stansted until October 29. The expansion of Jet2’s summer program to Greece reflects the airline’s commitment to providing customers and travel agents with a wide range of holiday options.
CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, Steve Heapy, expressed enthusiasm for the inaugural flight to Samos and the upcoming departures from other UK airports. The addition of Samos to their travel portfolio has already proven popular among vacationers seeking a relaxing Greek island getaway.
Moreover, recent developments suggest that Italy and Portugal may follow Greece in easing EU border checks at airports, alleviating delays for British holidaymakers. Issues arising from the EU’s Entry/Exit System (EES) have caused disruptions for travelers, including long queues and missed flights. Greece’s decision to suspend these new rules for UK visitors until September has set a positive precedent, with Portugal reportedly adopting a similar approach. Italy is expected to implement changes ahead of the May half-term, with other popular destinations like Spain, France, and Croatia likely to follow suit.
