Formula One legend Alain Prost, a four-time world champion, has reportedly suffered injuries in an alleged armed robbery at his residence in Switzerland. The renowned racer, known for his time with Williams, McLaren, and Ferrari, was physically assaulted during the incident, resulting in a head injury.
At 71 years old, Prost is a revered figure in the racing world, having excelled in the sport from 1980 to 1993. Referred to as “The Professor,” he holds impressive records for the most podium finishes, wins, and fastest laps. Prost’s fierce rivalry with Ayrton Senna is etched in Formula One history.
While Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen share the fourth-most Drivers’ Championships with Prost, Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, and Juan Manuel Fangio lead the list. However, the French racing icon’s recent ordeal has drawn attention for the wrong reasons.
Reports from Swiss newspaper Blick indicate that a group of masked intruders forcibly entered Prost’s home in Nyon on Tuesday morning and threatened his family. The intruders allegedly compelled a family member to open a safe on the property, which was then emptied of its contents.
Although details on the stolen items remain unclear, it is noted that Prost has close ties to luxury watch brands. The robbery has raised concerns about safety in the Lake Geneva area, where several similar incidents have occurred recently.
Authorities suspect that organized criminal groups are targeting affluent residents, particularly those with valuable possessions like luxury watches. This trend has become a growing issue in one of Switzerland’s exclusive residential regions.
Despite retiring from racing decades ago, Prost, who celebrated his 71st birthday in February, continues to support and mentor emerging talents in motor racing. He recently praised Red Bull Racing’s Isack Hadjar for his strong personality and performance, offering to share his expertise with the young driver.
As investigations continue and the perpetrators remain at large, neither Prost’s family nor the affected brands have commented on the incident. The incident serves as a reminder of the security challenges faced by residents in upscale areas like Lake Geneva.
