Ariana Grande has once again criticized the Trump administration for using her music in a recent social media post. This time, the Team Trump account featured her song “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)” in a TikTok video that tagged the Grammy-winning singer. The video showed clips of President Trump approaching a podium to speak, with text quoting part of Grande’s 2024 hit track. In response, Grande commented on the post, demanding that her music not be used again and calling out the inaccuracies in the text overlay.
This incident marks the second time this summer that Grande has spoken out against the administration’s use of her music. Previously, in mid-June, she criticized the administration for using her song “Bye” in a TikTok video related to immigration policy. Grande’s objections add her to a long list of artists, including Taylor Swift and ABBA, who have opposed the Trump team’s use of their music in various campaigns and social media posts.
Despite Trump’s team facing objections from numerous artists over the years, they continue to feature music from contemporary pop artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Katy Perry in their social media content. Some artists, such as Swift and Bad Bunny, have taken swift action to have their music removed from Team Trump’s videos through copyright infringement claims. While political campaigns can purchase licensing packages to use music legally, individual artists have the option to opt out of such inclusion for specific reasons.
