“Saskatchewan Golfer Scores First Hole-in-One at Special Olympics”

A golfer from Saskatchewan achieved his first-ever hole-in-one on his way to victory at the National Special Olympics. Taylor Carter, residing in Regina, became part of the Special Olympics team in 2013, having started playing golf at the age of four. The memorable moment occurred at the Medicine Hat Golf and Country Club last Friday, leaving a lasting impact on Carter. Describing the experience as surreal, he expressed his emotional reaction upon watching the video of the shot.

Accompanied by his nephew Ashton Carter, who served as his caddy, they approached the 135-yard 16th hole as the competition drew to a close. Opting for a nine-iron, Taylor took the shot that Ashton immediately recognized as exceptional. It was Taylor’s brother who first identified the hole-in-one, sparking jubilation among his family members. The elated moment was captured on video by Taylor’s sister-in-law, Kyra-Lee Carter.

Following the remarkable achievement, Taylor shared a touching embrace with his best friend Jason, who had traveled to support him in Medicine Hat. Recalling their past competition experience in Berlin, Germany, Taylor emphasized the significance of having his closest friend by his side. His mother, Charlene, expressed her disbelief and immense pride in witnessing the achievement at a national event.

Despite the initial shock triggering a spike in his heart rate, Taylor remained focused to complete the round with Ashton’s support. Managing the excitement, they maintained composure to finish the competition strongly. Taylor concluded the three-day tournament with a total score of 162 over three rounds, securing the gold medal in his division by a two-stroke margin.

Reflecting on the experience, Ashton described it as truly amazing, highlighting the confidence and authenticity displayed by all athletes. Taylor, grateful for the support he received, expressed his plans to continue practicing while cherishing the celebration with his loved ones. The possibility of participating in future competitions remains uncertain for Taylor, who is currently relishing the moment and the achievement.
