“Gordie Howe Bridge Sees Thousands of Crossings in Opening Days”

Statistics Canada has reported that tens of thousands of drivers crossed the Gordie Howe International Bridge into Canada in the initial days following its opening. The much-anticipated bridge, linking Windsor and Detroit, finally opened to traffic on July 27 after facing several weeks of delays.

According to initial data from StatCan, there were 18,900 return trips made by Canadian residents from the U.S. through the Gordie Howe bridge during its first five days of operation. Concurrently, 18,100 U.S. residents entered Canada via the same route during the same period.

In comparison, other border crossings in the area, such as the Ambassador Bridge and the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel, witnessed a total of 52,700 inbound trips by both Canadians and U.S. residents over the same period.

Furthermore, StatCan noted that a total of 4,100 commercial transport trucks journeyed to Canada via the Gordie Howe bridge in the final five days of July.
