A former high school wrestler, identified as a 17-year-old, was one of the two individuals who carried out a fatal shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego in California. The tragic incident left three people deceased. The suspects, Cain Clark, 17, and Caleb Vazquez, 18, were later found dead in a BMW near the mosque. Reports indicated that the perpetrators had inflicted self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
Clark, a former wrestler at Madison High School, showcased his wrestling medals in images. Disturbing hate speech was found on one of the weapons used in the attack, along with anti-Islamic writings discovered in the suspects’ vehicle. Despite not being a current student at Madison High School, Clark had been attending virtual classes and was set to graduate this month.
The grandfather of the 17-year-old expressed deep remorse for the events, stating it was a shocking situation. The San Diego Police were alerted by a concerned mother about a potentially suicidal juvenile who had disappeared with weapons and a car. A shotgun with a sticker referencing the Nazi regime’s Schutzstaffel was discovered near the crime scene.
Authorities were informed that the missing teenager was seen in camouflage attire with another individual before the incident. The police chief confirmed that the attack was being treated as a hate crime and investigations were ongoing to unravel the circumstances leading to the tragedy.
A security guard named Amin Abdullah, who tragically lost his life in the attack, was hailed as a hero by parents of children attending the Islamic Center of San Diego. Witnesses praised Abdullah’s selfless act, describing how he put himself in harm’s way to protect others.
San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl commended the security guard for his heroic actions, acknowledging that Abdullah’s swift response had saved lives. The Islamic Center of San Diego, housing the Al Rashid School offering educational programs in Arabic language, Islamic studies, and Quran courses, is the largest mosque in San Diego County.
