Virgin Media has recently dropped the price of its fastest broadband to a new all-time low. The company has initiated an unexpected sale, slashing over £70 off its ultra-fast Gig1 Fibre Broadband.
This broadband service offers speeds of up to 1,130Mbps, usually priced at £29.99 per month. However, it is now available for just £26.99 per month, resulting in a total saving of £72 over the 24-month contract, which translates to roughly 87p per day.
Virgin claims that this is the most budget-friendly deal ever offered for its Gig1 plan. With these speeds, a full-length HD movie can be downloaded in under 30 seconds, and a 50GB PS5 game can be ready to play in less than seven minutes.
In contrast, households with 70Mbps speeds would take over 90 minutes to download the same game. This means that streaming Netflix and online gaming can be enjoyed seamlessly with a fast connection.
However, there is a caveat. Virgin has confirmed that the discounted rate of £26.99 will increase twice during the minimum term, rising to £30.99 from April 2027 and £34.99 from April 2028. Additionally, the 1,130Mbps speeds may not be available to all UK households, so it is advisable to check availability using Virgin’s postcode checker.

Community Fibre is currently providing 1Gbps speeds for just £25 per month, with the first three months free and prices fixed for the contract’s duration. However, this service is limited to London and select south-east locations.
Not everyone requires ultra-fast speeds around 1Gbps, so it is essential to assess individual needs before committing to a long-term contract. For example, a couple residing in a flat and streaming Netflix daily should suffice with speeds around 100Mbps. Larger households engaging in remote work, downloading movies, and online gaming would benefit from speeds of at least 300Mbps.
