‘Nightmare Neighbor Evicted After Prolonged Abuse’

A resident labeled as a ‘nightmare neighbor’ has been ousted following a prolonged period of harassment. Chris and Amy Masterson, a couple from Scotland, expressed relief as the troublesome individual on their street, who had threatened them with violence, was finally evicted by the local council.

The Mastersons meticulously recorded their neighbor’s ongoing abusive behavior over nearly two years using a doorbell camera. The ordeal began when the problematic neighbor relocated to their street in Forth in 2024.

Living in fear, the couple and their two children endured verbal abuse and threats from Peter Ferguson, not only targeting them but also any visitors they had. Despite an antisocial behavior order issued to Ferguson by the police, he repeatedly violated its terms on seven occasions.

In recorded incidents, Ferguson could be heard hurling derogatory insults at Amy, leading the couple to fortify their doors after a threat to set their car on fire. The situation, described by the couple as ‘toxic,’ finally came to an end as South Lanarkshire Council confirmed Ferguson’s eviction.

Chris, aged 46, expressed the relief felt by the community, stating that their outdoor activities were marred by continuous abuse and threats in Ferguson’s presence. The Mastersons, who had enjoyed a peaceful existence in Forth since 2016, found their tranquility shattered when Ferguson arrived in 2024.

Chris, dealing with mobility challenges post-stroke, feared for the safety of Amy and their children. He recounted how Ferguson’s baseless verbal attacks on his wife escalated to include their guests, creating a hostile environment.

Following a court order due to Ferguson’s threatening behavior, which he repeatedly disregarded, the Mastersons faced numerous legal battles, negatively impacting their mental well-being. With the matter now resolved, they expressed immense relief.

The South Lanarkshire Council disclosed that eviction procedures were finalized at Lanark Sheriff Court on February 23, 2026, with the tenancy subsequently reclaimed by the council on an agreed date. Despite the eviction, an anti-social behavior order against the ex-tenant remains in effect.
