A convicted drug dealer who was involved in a deadly turf war by fatally stabbing a teenage rival received a powerful message from the victim’s family. Leon Bangura, 21, used a large knife to attack Kalvin Taylor, 19, during a brief drugs raid in Norwich. Taylor, a member of the “Batman” gang, was murdered by Bangura, a member of the rival “Lenny” gang. Bangura was recently sentenced to life in prison with a minimum term of 31 years, prompting Taylor’s grandmother to express her unforgiving stance towards him.
In a heartfelt statement, Lorraine Hall, Taylor’s grandmother, described the swift and devastating nature of the attack, emphasizing the profound impact of losing her grandson. She shared how Taylor’s involvement with negative influences had altered his path but expressed gratitude for having him in their lives, despite the tragedy. The court determined that the murder was driven by financial gain, as Bangura intended to steal drugs or money from the victim.
Bangura, who was found guilty of murder earlier this year, was also involved in drug-related offenses. His background and circumstances were cited in court, acknowledging his troubled upbringing and susceptibility to criminal influences. Despite claiming self-defense, Bangura’s actions resulted in the tragic death of Taylor, a casualty in the ongoing conflict between rival drug factions.
Following the sentencing, Detective Inspector Dave McCormack commended Taylor’s family for their strength and resilience throughout the challenging legal process.
