British tourists traveling to popular destinations on package holidays will now have a strict limit of six alcoholic drinks per day as part of new regulations aimed at curbing anti-social behavior. This restriction is currently enforced in various Balearic Islands of Spain, including Majorca, Magaluf, and Ibiza, in response to complaints from locals about disruptive behavior during peak holiday seasons.
Under the guidelines of Responsible Tourism, hotels are prohibited from providing more than six alcoholic beverages per day to guests on package deals, with any additional drinks available for separate purchase. Additionally, individuals caught consuming alcohol in public spaces face a fine of £2,600.
Simon Hood, the executive director of John Mason International, stated that Majorca and Ibiza introduced these rules to address concerns raised by local residents amidst overtourism protests. While these regulations were initially implemented in 2024, recent adjustments have been proposed, which many British tourists may be unaware of.
Holidaymakers booking all-inclusive packages or participating in bar crawls are also affected by these rules. For instance, limitations on all-inclusive drinks have been imposed in party hubs like Magaluf, Playa de Palma, and San Antonio. Those on all-inclusive packages are allowed a maximum of six alcoholic beverages daily, to be consumed during lunch and dinner.
Hood emphasized that while the regulations may appear stringent, tourists can still enjoy drinks by the pool but should be mindful of their surroundings. The primary aim of these rules is to foster harmony between local residents and holidaymakers. Hood advised travelers to have fun but to respect the guidelines in place.
