Nigel Farage recently disclosed that his residence was targeted in a firebombing incident, highlighting the inherent risks associated with his role. The leader of Reform UK recounted how a petrol bomb was sent through his letterbox last year, with no perpetrators identified. To enhance his security, Farage shared that a donation of approximately £5 million from philanthropist Christopher Harborne, based in Thailand, has been allocated.
Speaking with The Telegraph, Farage detailed the arson attempt that took place while he was away from home, describing the damage upon his return. He suspects the assailants were interrupted during the attack. Furthermore, citing previous instances of aggression, including having milkshakes and a rock hurled at him during the 2024 General Election campaign, Farage emphasized the dire need for security measures.
Addressing the persistent online threats and lack of police response to reported violence incitements, Farage expressed frustration with the British authorities’ reluctance to assist. He shared that the decision to publicly discuss his security arrangements stemmed from a breach of his financial information. Reportedly, Harborne’s financial support, untaxed and not classified as a political contribution, ensured Farage’s long-term safety.
Farage underscored that the financial backing from Harborne aimed to safeguard him indefinitely, especially after unsuccessful attempts to secure funding from the Home Office. Notably, Harborne was present when Farage faced a milkshake attack in Newcastle in 2019.
