Angelina Jolie’s uncle Chip Taylor, who inspired famous songs like Wild Thing, has passed away at the age of 86, as confirmed by his close friends. Grammy-winning producer Billy Vera shared the news on social media after bidding a final farewell to his friend in a heartfelt post. Chip Taylor, a renowned rock-song writer, was also the uncle of actor James Haven.
Vera expressed his sorrow, stating, “It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my dear friend and songwriting mentor, Chip Taylor, last night in hospice. Together, we wrote some memorable songs, including ‘Make Me Belong To You’ (Barbara Lewis), ‘Storybook Children’ (BV & Judy Clay, Nancy Sinatra), and ‘Papa Come Quick’ (Bonnie Raitt).”
In another tribute, musician Allan Jones remembered Taylor’s legacy, highlighting his contributions to songs like Wild Thing, Angel Of The Morning, and Anyway That You Want Me. Jones recalled Taylor’s performance at Twickenham Exchange, accompanied by John Platania, Van Morrison’s guitarist for many years, describing it as a memorable event filled with great music and entertaining anecdotes from Taylor.
Chip Taylor passed away just two days after celebrating his 86th birthday. He spent his final weeks in a hospice in New York, where he received an outpouring of condolences from fans. One fan reminisced, “I had the pleasure of meeting him; he was not only kind but also had a beautiful voice.”
Another fan shared, “He was a fantastic storyteller, gentle, funny, and engaged with everyone. His songs were amazing, especially when performed with John Platania. Chip even invited me to MC at his Glasgow gig, a request I couldn’t refuse.”
A third fan expressed, “Such sad news. I have seen him perform multiple times in the Netherlands and had the chance to meet him in person. His music was remarkable, and he will be greatly missed.”
