The labor union representing WestJet flight attendants has disclosed specifics of the recently reached tentative agreement with the Calgary-based airline following a brief strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that the deal involves an increase of over 18% in wages spread across three years, alongside a new “duty period premium” for ground work compensation. Additionally, the agreement encompasses extended time off, enhanced food and uniform allowances, and various other provisions.
During the extended holiday weekend, all WestJet flights in many parts of Canada were suspended as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union early Monday, leading to a gradual resumption of WestJet operations to normal levels.
The next step involves the cabin crew members voting on the agreement in the forthcoming weeks.
