A recently surfaced video captures the dramatic moment when an aircraft caught fire, resulting in a tragic crash that claimed the lives of 15 individuals. The National Transportation Safety Board is actively investigating the incident that occurred on November 4, 2025, in Kentucky.
During takeoff from Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport, a UPS jet, specifically a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F, experienced a catastrophic event as its engine and pylon detached from the wing. This disastrous occurrence led to the deaths of three crew members and 12 individuals on the ground. The aircraft, which was 34 years old at the time, was en route to Hawaii.
The distressing footage depicts a fiery explosion engulfing the plane, scattering debris over a wide area. Following the crash, all MD-11s were grounded by the FAA for an extended period as a precautionary measure.
In response to the tragic collision, the NTSB has scheduled a hearing in Washington to delve into the root cause of the accident. The victims on the ground have been identified, including Angela Anderson, Carlos Fernandez, Trinadette “Trina” Chavez, Tony Crain, John Loucks, John Spray, Matthew Sweets, Ella Petty Whorton, Megan Washburn, Louisnes Fedon, and Kimberly Asa, the 3-year-old granddaughter of Louisnes Fedon. Additionally, Alain Rodriguez Colina, who sustained severe injuries in the crash, passed away on Christmas Day.
UPS has confirmed the identities of its employees on the ill-fated flight: Capt. Richard Wartenberg, First Officer Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Capt. Dana Diamond. Reports indicate that the aircraft was carrying approximately 38,000 gallons (144,000 liters) of fuel at the time of the crash.
Aviation attorney Pablo Rojas described the aircraft as resembling a bomb due to the substantial fuel onboard. The intense blaze consumed the massive plane and spread to neighboring establishments, prompting a rigorous firefighting effort throughout the night to contain the flames and search for any potential victims.
