A young girl, Millie Rose Hedley, tragically passed away just a day after being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer known as acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). Her mother, Kimberley Hedley, described Millie as a beautiful, loving, and kind-hearted child. The family is now fundraising to express gratitude to the nurses who provided care to Millie during her illness.
Millie had been experiencing symptoms such as bone pain and extreme fatigue for about a year before her untimely death on December 22. Kimberley fondly remembered Millie as a joyful and energetic presence who brought happiness wherever she went. Millie’s passion for singing, dancing, and dinosaurs made her unique and cherished by all who knew her.
Despite her young age, Millie dreamt of becoming a singing princess archaeologist and shared a special bond with her sister. Her family had raised concerns about her frequent illnesses with doctors in the past. Prior to her diagnosis, Millie’s health rapidly declined, leading to her being rushed to the hospital where doctors discovered her cancer.
Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Millie’s condition worsened rapidly, and she passed away shortly after her diagnosis. Kimberley is now raising funds for the team at Newcastle’s Great North Hospital who cared for Millie. The family plans to drive from Newton Aycliffe to Benidorm and back in September to raise awareness and honor Millie’s memory.
The family hopes to educate others about the signs of AML, which include paleness, fatigue, breathlessness, weight loss, and joint pain. A celebration of Millie’s life was held in February to commemorate her spirit and impact on those around her.
