In a recent post on Monday, Zak, Zelda, and Cody Williams expressed their intention to maintain a secure and authentic space on the “therobinwilliams” Instagram account. They emphasized the importance of preserving their father’s legacy through genuine and heartfelt stories, photos, videos, and memories. This post marked the account’s first activity since July 31, 2014.
The children aim to share their father’s exceptional talent and humor with the world, commemorating the moments that brought laughter to them and countless others. They cherish his remarkable life and work, acknowledging the ongoing inspiration and joy he brings globally.
Robin Williams enjoyed a successful career spanning film, television, and stage. From his breakout role in the television sitcom “Mork & Mindy” (1978-1982) to memorable performances in movies like “Good Morning Vietnam” (1987), “Dead Poets Society” (1989), “Mrs. Doubtfire” (1993), and “Jumanji” (1995), Williams left an indelible mark on entertainment.

Recent AI-generated videos featuring Williams range from podcast appearances and stand-up comedy routines to humorous takes on the dinosaurs in “Jurassic Park.” Many of these videos were created using OpenAI’s video platform, Sora. However, OpenAI discontinued Sora in March following backlash from families of public figures like Michael Jackson, Mister Rogers, and Martin Luther King Jr., who were also digitally recreated through the app.
Zelda Williams, an accomplished actor and director, has been vocal in her opposition to AI recreations of her father. Last year, she pleaded with fans to refrain from sharing AI-generated videos of Robin Williams, condemning the practice as disrespectful to his memory and values.
In a recent Instagram story, Zelda emphasized the significance of reactivating her father’s Instagram account as a means of combatting the misuse of AI. She acknowledged the unusual nature of resurrecting the account but highlighted its role in preserving authentic clips and photos of her father to counter the proliferation of AI infringements on social media platforms.
While actor Matthew Lawrence expressed interest in utilizing AI to revive Williams’s iconic voice, he stressed the importance of obtaining the family’s consent for any such project.
Bernice King, daughter of Martin Luther King Jr., has similarly denounced the utilization of AI to replicate her father’s likeness.
In a separate development, a digital version of the late actor Val Kilmer, who passed away last year at 65, will feature in the upcoming film “As Deep As the Grave,” with approval from Kilmer’s estate and compensation arrangements in place.
