“Putin Seeks Refuge in Bunkers Amid Coup Fears”

Russian President Vladimir Putin has reportedly sought refuge in secure bunkers for extended periods due to concerns of a potential coup, as per a report from a Western intelligence agency. Security measures have been significantly heightened around the Kremlin leader, who has refrained from visiting his usual residences over fears of drone attacks orchestrated by Russian political figures.

The report, sourced from the independent Russian news outlet Important Stories and based on an unnamed intelligence agency, indicates that Putin and the Kremlin have been on high alert since March 2026 regarding leaks of sensitive information and potential threats to the president’s safety, including the possibility of drone-assisted assassination attempts.

Amidst these security concerns, Putin’s Security Council Secretary, Sergei Shoigu, has been linked to coup suspicions following the arrest of his former deputy on corruption charges. The report also mentions a European Union country’s intelligence service as the source of the information.

The Federal Protective Service (FSO) has tightened security protocols around Putin, with stringent screening processes for visitors and a reduction in the president’s public appearances. Allegedly residing with his partner and children, Putin is said to frequent renovated bunkers, particularly in the Krasnodar region, to conduct official duties away from potential threats.

The report highlights Putin’s avoidance of military infrastructure visits this year compared to previous years, signaling a shift in his security protocols. Additionally, strict measures such as prohibiting mobile phone usage by personnel near Putin, surveillance installations in staff homes, and enhanced security for senior officials indicate a heightened state of alert within the Russian leadership.

Following a car bomb incident targeting a senior military official, Putin has reportedly called for improved security measures and internal discussions among his security team to address vulnerabilities and enhance protection for the elite. This development underscores the heightened security concerns surrounding Putin’s administration amidst internal and external threats.
