An 88-year-old American woman tragically lost her life after losing control of her mobility scooter and plunging into the waters off a pier in the Bahamas during a Carnival Celebration cruise. The incident occurred at Celebration Key, an exclusive spot for Carnival Cruise Line passengers, as the ship was on a seven-day Eastern Caribbean journey that departed from Miami on May 3 and returned on May 10.
Carnival Cruise Line confirmed the incident, stating that the woman drove off the pier and fell into the water while the ship was docked. Despite prompt rescue efforts by Carnival teams, she could not be revived. Her body was later handed over to the Royal Bahamas Police Force for further investigation.
According to the police, the woman is believed to have hit her head on the vessel’s hull before falling into the water, leading to her unfortunate demise. Witness Linsy Egersheim described the scene as heartbreaking, emphasizing the somber mood onboard after the incident.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed, and the exact cause of her death remains under investigation.
