Residents in Regina have been encountering coyotes not only at the movie theater but also in local parks. Scott Paton, a regular at Les Sherman Park, came across a coyote in mid-August, which approached him and his dogs out of curiosity. Despite spotting coyote droppings in the area, Paton remains unfazed, considering it a natural part of the urban ecosystem.
However, not all residents share Paton’s comfort. Reports on social media have surfaced regarding coyote sightings around Les Sherman Park and Kiwanis Waterfall Park, with some individuals recounting unsettling encounters where the coyote exhibited bold behavior, including chasing people and pets. City Councilor David Froh also had a firsthand experience with a coyote during his morning jog in Les Sherman Park, noting the animal’s lack of fear towards humans.
In response to the growing concern, the City of Regina has acknowledged reports of two coyotes in the neighborhood and is collaborating with conservation officers to safely relocate the animals. Froh emphasized the importance of addressing persistent wildlife sightings to mitigate potential safety risks. While acknowledging the unease these encounters may cause, Froh reassured residents that such interactions with wildlife are not uncommon in Regina and urged prompt reporting of any sightings posing a threat to public safety.
