After over a decade of conducting interviews and engaging in light-hearted conversations with movie stars, musicians, and athletes over a meal of fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the popular YouTube talk show “Chicken Shop Date,” revealed this week that she is bringing the show to a close.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, Dimoldenberg expressed her deep affection for the show, likening it to her personal romantic comedy filled with countless stories for her viewers. She thanked her audience for joining her on this journey and finding joy in the episodes.
Although she never anticipated ending “Chicken Shop Date,” Dimoldenberg acknowledged that it is time to embark on a new adventure while cherishing the memories created through the show. Starting the show 12 years ago with interviews in Britain’s underground rap scene, Dimoldenberg expanded her reach to feature discussions with celebrities like Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, amassing nearly 3.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.
“Chicken Shop Date” follows a unique format where Dimoldenberg engages in a casual date setting with a celebrity at a fried chicken shop in London, asking a mix of flirty, humorous, and sometimes awkward questions. The show fosters a conversational tone more akin to a first date than a traditional talk show interview, leading to moments of genuine connection, such as her playful interaction with Andrew Garfield.
Among her diverse interviews, Dimoldenberg has also hosted Canadians like Ryan Reynolds and Shania Twain, uncovering amusing revelations such as correcting Reynolds on his wife Blake Lively’s character name in “Gossip Girl.” Beyond the chicken shop, Dimoldenberg’s success has extended to opportunities like covering the Oscars red carpet and interviewing figures like Hudson Williams.
While Dimoldenberg’s future plans post-“Chicken Shop Date” remain undisclosed, she is reportedly working on developing a young adult drama series for the BBC. Before bidding farewell to the show, Dimoldenberg promised her followers “a few final dates” to savor the moments before the show’s conclusion.
