Trump Vows “MOST CRUSHING” Economic Operation on Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump pledged on social media Wednesday to initiate what he described as “the MOST CRUSHING ECONOMIC OPERATION EVER TAKEN AGAINST ANY COUNTRY!” Trump emphasized that this action would involve Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented level, although specific details were scarce.

Furthermore, Trump cautioned about potential economic repercussions for any nation supporting Tehran or extending any form of support to Iran. He emphasized that any country enabling its financial institutions, businesses, airports, or government entities to aid Iran would face significant Economic Consequences.

Without specifying the exact measures Washington would implement against such countries or naming any specific nation, Trump reiterated the need to halt activities like oil smuggling, swap lines, cash transfers, exchange houses, ship registries, and front companies immediately.

The ongoing conflict, which has led to numerous casualties over the past six months and has drawn in countries across the Gulf, has rattled global markets. Iran’s demonstration of control over shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passage for about one-fifth of the world’s traded oil before February, has further heightened tensions.

Despite two failed ceasefire agreements announced by the U.S. and Iran in April and June to restore shipping flow through Hormuz and resolve the conflict, the situation remains volatile. The recent suspension of trade activities by the UAE following missile launches allegedly from Iran, a claim dismissed by Iran, adds to the conflicting accounts surrounding U.S.-Iran talks.

While China stands as a significant buyer of Iran’s oil, engaging in further economic warfare with China could invite potential retaliation, considering China’s crucial role as a major exporter to the U.S., particularly of vital rare-earth minerals.

Amidst these developments, Mohammad Mokhber, an adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, expressed Iran’s willingness to engage in dialogue with the U.S. without compromising its principles. Despite differing statements, with Trump denying ongoing talks with Iran while Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and special envoy, suggesting active negotiations, the situation remains fluid.
