Prince Harry and Meghan, along with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are set to return to the United Kingdom as confirmed by Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. The decision to move back was initially reported by The Telegraph and The Sun. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be transitioning to a private life in the UK, although the exact return date has not been officially disclosed. However, media reports suggest they aim to settle before September for their children to commence school.
Harry and Meghan had stepped back from their royal duties in March 2020 and departed for California soon after a brief stay in Canada. Their relationship with the Royal Family had strained due to public criticisms directed at the monarchy. Harry expressed his discontent, particularly towards his father and brother, Prince William, resulting in a significant rift within the family.
In a statement, Harry lamented the loss of a privacy lawsuit in July against The Daily Mail, where he had testified about the distress caused to Meghan. Despite the legal setback, Harry vowed that he never intended to abandon his responsibilities. The recent developments indicated a potential thaw in relations, as the King and Harry met for the first time in nearly two years last September. The family’s visit to Britain in July allowed King Charles to reunite with his grandchildren after a prolonged absence.
The Palace revealed that King Charles, who had battled cancer in early 2024, received positive responses to treatment. Doctors transitioned to a precautionary phase following his remarkable progress. The King welcomed the news of Harry and Meghan’s relocation as an opportunity to deepen family bonds in a personal setting.
