The Canadian-produced hockey drama series, “Heated Rivalry,” has added three new stars to its cast for the upcoming second season. The show, which gained international acclaim in its first season, will feature Ukrainian-American actress Milla Jovovich, Kevin Zegers from Woodstock, Ont., and Canadian actor Paul Gross as part of the new cast lineup.
Milla Jovovich is known for her roles in the “Resident Evil” franchise and “The Fifth Element.” Kevin Zegers has appeared in various TV shows and films, including “Gossip Girl” and “Transamerica.” Paul Gross, a prominent figure in Canadian film and television, is recognized for his work in “Due South” and the films “Men With Brooms” and “Passchendaele.”
The series, inspired by Nova Scotia author Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” books, focuses on the clandestine relationship between two competitive ice hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Paul Gross will portray hockey league commissioner Roger Crowell, while Kevin Zegers will take on the role of Coach Wiebe, the head of the Ottawa Centaurs team. Milla Jovovich will play Dr. Galina Molchalina, a therapist who supports Rozanov.
Additionally, the upcoming season will feature a diverse Canadian cast, including actors like Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Emily Hampshire from “Schitt’s Creek,” and Priyanka from “Canada’s Drag Race.” The second season is set to premiere in Spring 2027 on Crave, following the commencement of shooting confirmed by series creator Jacob Tierney on August 17.
Despite its success, “Heated Rivalry” is not eligible for this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards. However, the show dominated the Canadian Screen Awards, winning 13 awards, including Best Drama. Connor Storrie, one of the lead actors, has been nominated for his hosting role on “Saturday Night Live.”
