“Rare ‘Almost Blood Moon’ Eclipse Enthralls Skywatchers”

Skywatchers witnessed a partial lunar eclipse spanning the Americas, Europe, and Africa from Thursday evening into Friday. Dubbed the “almost blood moon,” the eclipse reached its peak just after midnight ET, with 96% of the moon’s visible surface shadowed by Earth, creating a near-total lunar eclipse. This rare event won’t repeat until New Year’s Eve in 2028.

In Canada, residents in Vancouver observed the full moon during the eclipse phase, capturing stunning images of the celestial spectacle. Similarly, in Winnipeg, the partial lunar eclipse adorned the night sky above Osborne Village, while in Toronto, the R.C. Harris Water Treatment Plant provided a picturesque backdrop for the lunar event.

Across the Americas, individuals in Needville, Texas, snapped cellphone photos of the lunar eclipse from the George Observatory, while the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C., and the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans served as dramatic settings for observing the celestial phenomenon. In Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, the moon loomed over the Mexican flag during the eclipse, contrasting against the night sky. Further south in Salvador, Bahia state, Brazil, the moon rose behind a coconut palm, adding a tropical flair to the lunar eclipse experience.

In Europe, the partial lunar eclipse was a sight to behold over Warsaw, Poland, and London, where people gathered on Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath, to witness the event. In Lisbon, Portugal, a plane made a striking silhouette against the partially eclipsed moon during its approach for landing. Meanwhile, in Goutz, France, the reddish hue of the partial eclipse painted a mesmerizing scene in the night sky.

Overall, the partial lunar eclipse offered a captivating display for sky enthusiasts across various continents, creating memorable moments under the celestial canopy.
