A young child tragically passed away in Ellesmere Port after being struck by a car, leaving his family to remember him as a delightful boy who brought happiness to those around him.
The incident occurred on April 19 when Kanan-Jay McLeod, aged six, was hit by a black Infiniti FX30D on Anchor Drive. Despite being rushed to the hospital, the cheerful young boy succumbed to his injuries.
Following the incident, a 48-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, drug driving, and driving without a proper license. He has since been released on bail, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Describing Kanan-Jay as their beloved child, his family expressed how he brightened their lives with his playful nature, big smile, and love for gaming, cars, and football, particularly supporting Liverpool Football Club.
The family also mentioned his close bond with his cousins, friends, and relatives, highlighting the joyful moments they shared together. Despite their heartbreak, they expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support and kindness from the community during this difficult time.
In memory of Kanan-Jay, his auntie initiated a fundraising campaign on JustGiving to assist with the funeral expenses. The appeal has already raised over £18,000, with a plea for support to give the young boy a deserving farewell.
Floral tributes, along with heartfelt messages, have been left at the accident site on Anchor Drive, paying respects to Kanan-Jay. The community has also shown support by leaving flowers at Whitby Sports and Social Club.
