The traveler, a family of four from the Midwest, planned to start their adventure in Newcastle by renting a car. Their schedule began with arrival on a Saturday, allowing time for settling in and rest after a long flight.
However, the itinerary quickly escalated with plans to drive to the Lake District on Sunday to acclimate to driving on the opposite side of the road. On Monday, they aimed to drive to Scotland, contemplating a visit to both Glasgow and Edinburgh and questioning the feasibility of taking a train.
Their plans for Tuesday and Wednesday were even more ambitious, involving a long drive to Polperro, Cornwall, followed by a visit to London on Thursday for a bus tour. Friday was left free for relaxation, with a potential visit to Stonehenge or a castle.
The Reddit community reacted with sarcasm and disbelief, suggesting adding more destinations like Shetland or Paris to the itinerary. Some comments highlighted the impracticality of the plans, emphasizing that the travelers might end up spending most of their time inside their rental car.
While some responses were critical, others offered sympathy, noting that Americans are accustomed to longer drives and may underestimate the challenges of winter travel in the UK.
