Embarking on a voyage aboard the Marella Discovery, one of TUI’s all-inclusive fleet, promised more than just a typical Caribbean cruise experience. The Tropical Isles itinerary took us to lesser-known ports such as Puerto Rico’s Ponce and the charming Isla Catalina, offering a refreshing change from the usual tourist hotspots. On Isla Catalina, we were greeted with live music, sunbeds, and a complimentary beach barbecue before diving into the crystal-clear waters for some exceptional snorkeling.
Returning to the ship, Marella Discovery stood out for its relaxed atmosphere and ample amenities, including nine restaurants, seven bars, and diverse entertainment options like outdoor cinema and West End-style shows. The ship’s layout was easy to navigate, and my balcony room provided a comfortable retreat. Additionally, Marella customers can now enhance their experience with premium Elemis products through the “Suite Service Max” package.
Food was a highlight of the cruise, with a variety of dining options ranging from British-style gastropub fare to pan-Asian cuisine at the specialty restaurants. Each meal was a culinary delight, with standout dishes like a rich steak and ale pie at Piccadilly’s and fragrant curries at Kora La. The ship also offered a casual poolside spot, The Glass House, ideal for laid-back lunches.
Shore excursions on this itinerary added depth to the Caribbean experience, from exploring El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico to swimming with turtles at Magens Bay in St. Thomas. The trip also provided a taste of authentic Puerto Rican cuisine at local eateries like Café Manolín, where I savored the traditional Mofongo dish.
Marella’s Tropical Isles itinerary caters to both first-time cruisers and seasoned travelers seeking a stress-free and enjoyable Caribbean escape. The cruise offers a perfect blend of island-hopping adventures, delectable dining experiences, and a lively onboard atmosphere. Despite being marketed as a budget-friendly option, the cruise delivers a premium experience that exceeds expectations, showcasing that luxury Caribbean travel can be accessible to all.
