Arthur Fery stands as the lone British singles contender at Wimbledon, set to clash with Belgian top player Zizou Bergs in the third round at SW19, following his mother’s former professional footsteps.
As the men’s singles third round unfolds at the All England Club, only one home favorite remains, with Fery, a local from the vicinity of Wimbledon’s renowned grass courts, carrying the British hopes single-handedly.
After defeating Damir Dzumhur in the opening round in four sets, Fery triumphed over Otto Virtanen in the second round on Court 18, securing a 5–7, 7–6(3), 6–3, 6–3 victory. He is poised to face Bergs on Saturday afternoon, marking his debut in a Grand Slam third-round match.
Supported by his parents, Fery will step into his first-ever Major last-32 appearance. Reflecting on his family background, including his father, a football club president, and his mother, a former professional player turned LTA staff member, sheds light on the Brit’s personal journey.
With strong ties to the football realm through his father Loic Fery, the young Fery shares a connection to Ligue 1 club Lorient, once owned by his father. The family’s interactions with notable figures like Ellis Short and Arsene Wenger have played a significant role in their sporting endeavors.
While Loic sold his remaining shares in FC Lorient to American businessman Bill Foley’s BKFC in January 2026, retaining his position as the club president, he reminisced on his ownership experience and sporting background, highlighting his competitive nature and strategic investments.
On the other hand, Arthur’s mother, Olivia, enjoyed a successful tennis career, clinching two singles titles and participating in prestigious events like the 1991 French Open before transitioning to a role at the LTA.
