The Foreign Office has issued updated travel guidance for British travelers planning trips to Turkey. Turkey has always been a popular destination for UK tourists due to its affordability and pleasant Mediterranean weather. The country offers expansive resorts, beautiful sandy beaches, and crystal-clear waters perfect for enjoying the sunny weather, along with vibrant cities rich in history, featuring landmarks, mosques, and bustling bazaars.
Among the must-visit cities in Turkey is Istanbul, renowned for its impressive architecture, lively streets, diverse street food scene, and historic sites like the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. However, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has cautioned British visitors, especially football enthusiasts, about potential risks when traveling to Istanbul, as it will host the UEFA Europa League Final on Wednesday, May 20.
The FCDO recommended travelers heading to Istanbul for the UELF26 event to review their travel advice and register for FCDO Travel Advice email alerts. It also advised visitors to ensure their passports are valid before departure, emphasizing that passports must have an expiration date at least 150 days after arrival in Turkey and contain at least one blank page.
Furthermore, British travelers were reminded to verify that their travel documents meet the entry requirements and to renew passports if necessary through the government website. Failure to comply with these regulations, including the use of lost or stolen passports, could result in denied entry to Turkey.
For British passport holders, a visa is not required for stays up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism or business purposes. However, individuals with different types of British passports must check visa requirements with the Turkish Embassy or Consulate General before traveling to Turkey.
