Keely Hodgkinson finished in second place in the 800-meter race at the Diamond League event in Stockholm, with Switzerland’s Audrey Werro claiming the top spot. Despite this result, Hodgkinson expressed determination to bounce back stronger in future races.
After a previous 400-meter race in Rome, Hodgkinson returned to her preferred distance but was outpaced by Werro, who set a remarkable time of 1:53.98, the third fastest in women’s 800m history and the quickest of 2026.
Although Hodgkinson and Werro led the race in Stockholm, the British athlete couldn’t match Werro’s exceptional speed, even though she achieved a personal best time of 1:54.33. Hodgkinson acknowledged Werro’s outstanding performance, stating that it pushed her to improve.
Looking ahead, Hodgkinson remains focused on her goal of breaking the world record in London next month. Despite the recent setback, she is confident in her abilities and plans to compete in upcoming events leading to the Diamond League meet in London.
The event also saw surprises in other competitions, such as pole vault sensation Armand Duplantis losing to Kurtis Marschall and British sprinter Amy Hunt achieving a personal best in the 200m race. Additionally, Sky is offering a discount on its Glass TVs to celebrate the 2026 FIFA World Cup kickoff.
