A man brandishing a knife was captured on camera outside a family’s residence, where the occupants witnessed him standing on their doorstep, slashing at the air with a large blade. California resident Rebecca Breen and her spouse were watching television in their Arden, Sacramento home around 8:30 pm on Thursday when their doorbell camera alerted them with notifications.
The couple was astonished by the scene unfolding before them. Breen recounted that an unknown individual was seen at their front door holding a knife and making stabbing motions towards the entrance, a sight that left them terrified. Promptly contacting emergency services, panic ensued in the neighborhood as other residents also reported sightings of the armed man.
Responding swiftly, deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene within minutes, but the suspect had already fled. A police helicopter was deployed, with officers racing to locate the man. Despite initially evading capture, he was eventually apprehended on Saturday morning and subsequently released after being charged with criminal trespassing.
Authorities disclosed that the man had been seen behaving aggressively with knives at various doors, although fortunately, no injuries were reported during the alarming incident. Commending residents for securing their homes, remaining indoors, and alerting law enforcement, Breen expressed her belief that their home was not singled out but acknowledged the unsettling randomness of the attack.
The unsettling late-night episode left the entire community shaken, especially as the man was released back into the public. Neighbors expressed frustration over perceived lapses in private security response and delayed communication from authorities following the distressing event, heightening the fear stemming from the ordeal.
