The father of the Duchess of Sussex has returned to the United States from the Philippines to undergo a cutting-edge prosthetic limb fitting to aid in his mobility. Thomas Markle, 81, underwent a lifesaving three-hour operation in December after his left leg was amputated due to a critical blood clot in his thigh. Following the operation, he relocated to an undisclosed location in the US for ongoing medical treatment and to receive top-quality prosthetics among friends and family support.
Despite the distance, Thomas Markle’s elder daughter, Samantha, expressed that his return to the US for medical care has been a spiritually positive journey for him. Thomas has been out of touch with Meghan since his health setbacks prevented him from attending her wedding in 2018 and meeting his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet.
Following his recent medical procedure, Meghan extended a gesture of support by sending a letter to her father through embassy officials. However, Thomas’s son mentioned concerns about the financial burden of his father’s care and emphasized the importance of getting him back on his feet with the necessary prosthetic assistance.
Previously, it was reported that Thomas Markle was residing in the Philippines and was being looked after by his son in a high-rise apartment. Despite the challenges, Thomas expressed gratitude towards the medical staff in the Philippines for saving his life and shared that he had found companionship with a Filipino nurse, Rio Canedo, who has been instrumental in his recovery journey.
Thomas Markle aims to reconnect with Meghan before his health deteriorates further and has plans to acquire additional mobility aids to enhance his quality of life. He values the support he has received from his newfound partner and looks forward to future interactions, including potential visits to the US.
